Type: Residential Development (built to sell)

Apartment base build (123 plots over 3 phases), common parts, concierge and residents lounge.

Location: Paddington, London

Contractor: Bouygues Construction

Completion: 2018

This Residents Lounge continues an Art Deco theme, focusing on ‘machine age’ styling, streamline curves, polished metalwork and spherical light fittings.

The materials and fabrics were inspired by vibrant Miami architecture, a city famous for it’s 1920’s bold colour palette, expressed via corals, silvers, greens and blues, bought up to date with dark veneers and hints of black metal work. The room is dressed with pieces of early 20th-century abstract art; graphical, rebellious and playful in tone, including prints by Russian artist Kandinsky, and futurist El Lissitzky.

With events in mind, a bar is positioned in line of sight from the rooms two arrival points. Located in the center of the space, this bar is designed to convert into a serving point when the room is booked out for celebrations. This focal piece deliberately adopts the style of Art Deco cocktail cabinets, made up of stepped cupboards with curved ends and decorative veneer inlays to the doors. The backdrop to the bar is an iconic sun-burst motif, a hugely prominent design feature in the nineteen twenties. Completed at HLM Architects.
